[Fairy tales are...really not what Oswin does. Her realm's the one of technology and computers, things she can physically touch and explain logically. Sure, she's definitely a dreamer, but her dreams are things she can do, not impossible or unattainable, and you can get she knows what she's going to do to get them. She's got no time to waste on magic and silly things that won't help her out.

But, there is one that makes her take pause sometimes, whenever she hears it repeated.

A man, older than time itself and yet young in his appearance, a man who hadn't grown old even as thousands and thousands of year passed. People said that he spirited people away at night, but never to harm them, only to take them to a magical world where they would stay with him for as long as they pleased, exploring and adventuring. But, they always left in the end and even when she was young and hearing the story for the first time, that always struck a rather melancholy chord with Oswin.

And now, for some reason, she finds herself thinking about it again, that story she hasn't properly heard in years. Perched in the windowsill in her nightgown and looking out at the countless stars in the sky she one day hopes to see much closer, Oswin lets her mind wander back to it for some reason or another.

Probably because part of her wishes it was real and there was some magic man ready to whisk her off to a place that's as far from here as possible. But, no. She's got to do things the old-fashioned way and that's that. No matter how much she wants to change that, there's not a lot of getting past it.

Seriously? [She has to laugh at that, amusement shining in her eyes.] M'pretty sure they haven't got much to worry about. [Oswin's got Nina at home, after all, and she's really not too keen on getting anywhere near the mermaids.

Her smile fades as she looks up.] ...What's that on your neck?

[mrcool]

Hm?

[Oh...seriously? Why does everyone have to point that out? The Doctor blushes furiously.]

Thaaat...is nothing. [He covers the spot with a hand.]

[makingsouffles]

Doesn't look like it. [Her mind hasn't gone to the obvious conclusion, she's actually concerned that he's hurt for now.]

[mrcool]

Then you're seeing wrong. It isn't anything.

[He's still blushing. A lot. The mermaids are trying to hoist themselves on land to get close to him.]

Come on, let me have a look-

[She glances over at the mermaids and then back to the Doctor's covered wound. And back. And again.

A disbelieving grin slowly spreads on her face.] Oh my god, is that really?

[mrcool]

It's nothing!

[The mermaids sound like they're laughing.]

[makingsouffles]

[The mermaids may or may not be laughing, but Oswin definitely is.]

You actually let them get close enough?

[mrcool]

Shut up! [He's scarlet to his ears.] I didn't know! I wanted to learn more about them!

[makingsouffles]

So you let them do that?

[Aw, he's kind of adorable like this, all flustered and blushing. She grabs his hand, trying to pull it away.] Come on, you've got to let me have a look now.

[mrcool]

[Oh, this is a nightmare. He just huffs and lets her pull his hand away.]

...I don't want to talk about it.

[makingsouffles]

[She giggles a little more before pulling back.] Wish I could tell you it could be worse.

[mrcool]

...It is worse. That isn't the only one.

[makingsouffles]

[She presses her lips together, trying not to start laughing again.]

Do I want to know where the other ones are?

[mrcool]

Shut it. [He's bright red now.] How was I supposed to know they liked me?

[makingsouffles]

Doesn't really look like there's a lot of mermen, yeah? [She nudges his shoulder.] You're probably the best thing they've seen in a long time.

[mrcool]

Yes, and they were planning on... [He goes even redder.] Anyway! It...didn't go as they wanted.

[makingsouffles]

Not before they got a couple of bites in, though. [She grins up at him.]

[mrcool]

Oh, you... [Sigh, and he glances back at the mermaids.]

[makingsouffles]

[Oswin just laughs playfully, giving his shoulder another nudge with hers.]

[mrcool]

[He rolls his eyes.]

Come on. We should go. They can get up on land if they try hard enough.

Wouldn't want that, would we?

[She squeezes his hand, beginning to turn away.]

[mrcool]

[He just...sighs and nods. There's a wail from the mermaids as he starts to leave.]

[makingsouffles]

Looks like your fans don't want you leaving. [Sorry, Doctor, she's really not letting this one go.]

[mrcool]

Would you please stop? [So much huffing, you don't even know.]

[makingsouffles]
